Flashing the Chimney

The chimney flashing is the thin metal barrier made from aluminium, stainless steel, copper or lead. Its thin, flexible sheets are wrapped around the chimney where it meets the roof shingles. In typical construction, the house and the chimney are set on different foundations.

Through time, the foundations may move in different directions creating a gap to form between the chimney and the roof. Creating a barrier between the chimney and the roof that is waterproof and flexible is highly imperative to avoid leakage. Working on roofs are quite challenging and dangerous at the same time. Always be sure to check the weather and safety precautions are taken before you mount your roof.
